Assistant Professor
Dr. Chutchamas Kanchana-udomkan is a leading expert in plant genetics, vegetable breeding, and germplasm conservation, with a strong focus on tropical and indigenous vegetables. She heads the Tropical Vegetable Research Center at Kasetsart University and serves as Director of the Hub of Talents for Thai Vegetable Seeds, supported by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT).
Her research integrates conventional breeding techniques with advanced molecular tools—such as QTL mapping and marker-assisted selection—to develop improved cultivars that address the needs of smallholder farmers and the agri-food industry. She is particularly passionate about applying genetic diversity to support food and nutrition security, climate resilience, and sustainable seed systems.
Dr. Chutchamas leads several national and international collaborations, including the Taiwan-Asia Vegetable Initiative (TASVI) and Veg-SeedHub, which focus on the repatriation, conservation, and utilisation of vegetable genetic resources. Her work spans the entire value chain—from genebanks to end-users—and emphasises farmer participatory breeding, digital genetic data management, and stakeholder engagement.
She is committed to advancing science-based innovation, capacity building, and public awareness to promote resilient agricultural systems and long-term food security.
